Good Turn For Goodwill 2015

It is time for the annual Good Turn for Goodwill scouting project. Starting Tuesday, October 13, we will be collecting donations for Goodwill at the Troop meetings. You can donate any item: clothes, books, plates, basketballs, shoes, toys, purses, teapots, etc. The only items Goodwill will not accept are televisions. One, white kitchen garbage bag or one cardboard box the size that can hold copy paper, will count as one donation. Donations can be collected from friends, neighbors, and relatives too.

The patrol with the most donations will receive their choice of either a pizza party or ice cream party provided by Mr. Spellman.
Donating is simple. Just bring your bags/boxes to the back of the ministry center where the trailers are parked. There will be scouts and adults to assist you.
Donations will be accepted on the following Tuesdays: Oct. 13, Oct. 20, Oct. 27, Nov. 3, and Nov. 10.

So please go thru your closets and bring your donations to a troop meeting.

2017 Philmont Trip

Calling all Boy Scouts and Scouters: Plan a lifelong memory with a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch. Troop 199 plans to return to Philmont the summer of 2017.

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America’s largest national high-adventure base. Its more than 214 square miles of rugged northern New Mexico wilderness challenges Scouts and Scouters. Philmont provides an unforgettable adventure in sky-high backpacking country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails. Program features combine the best of the Old West – horseback riding, gold panning, chuckwagon dinners, and interpretive history – with exciting challenges for today, such as rock climbing, burro racing, mountain biking, and shotgun and rifle shooting. It’s an unbeatable recipe for fast-moving fun and the outdoors.

Boy Scouts must be first class and at least 14 years of age by early June 2017.

This will be a two week trip that departs sometime during the 2nd, 3rd or 4th week of June 2017. The estimated cost for Philmont 2017, which includes airfare, bus transportation, and Philmont fees will be approximately $1,600 to $1,700.

Please let Mr. Hobson know if you are interested in attending Philmont 2017 or want more information on this adventure. We plan to reserve our crews in early November, and need to know approximately how many scouts would like to attend. Based on how many scouts express interest in going to Philmont, we expect to reserve either 2 or 3 crews. This would give us enough for 18 to 27 scouts and 6 to 9 adult leaders. Scouts who express interest now will be giving the first opportunity to sign up once we reserve our crews.
